Ringling Brothers is Back in Town in its Full Forgotten Glory
March 06, 2009
Ringling Brothers is back in town with their new show, Zing Zang Zoom. I was fortunate to attend tonight's New Jersey premiere in Newark with my family and can now report back to you that we were absolutely blown away. We go to the circus religiously every year, but for the last few years, ever since Ringling Brothers stopped doing the three-ring circus, we've been disappointed by our experience. They seemed to be trying to copy Cirque du Soleil by doing more of a musical show centered around a story and that's just not what we expected or wanted in a Ringling Brothers performance.
But tonight, the old full-on entertainment Ringling Brothers show was back and it was fun and thrilling like it used to be. We held our breath, laughed out loud, and shook our head in wonder. The theme of the new show, Zing Zang Zoom, is magic and Zingmaster Alex performed some truly amazing tricks. He sawed women in half, made dogs disappear, and most impressive of all, turned a clown into a white tiger. Our eyes just could not take in all there was too see, because the two-ring circus was back. The full menagerie was out: tigers, elephants, dogs, horses and zebras. An army of clowns entertained us and double teams of acrobats soared through the air at both ends of the stage. The show last two and a half hours and the only lull in that time was intermission.
