Dan Zanes Giveaway

February 26, 2009

When I think of kids' music, I think of two names: Raffi and Dan Zanes. And if you say contemporary kid music, then the list falls down to one, just Dan Zanes, although as we're all aging much faster than we can believe, he's well on his way to becoming a classic. If you or your kids are not a Dan Zanes groupie yet, you'll soon have an opportunity to experience a Dan Zanes concert and join the multitude of fans because he's coming to New Jersey!

Dan will be performing two shows in Princeton and Montclair this weekend and it's not too late to get tickets! Click on the links below to reserve your seats for some toe-tapping fun. Here are the links for the shows:
  • Saturday, February 28 - Princeton - McCarter Theater Center
  • Sunday, March 1 - Montclair - The Wellmont Theater
Dan Zanes is the former lead singer of the Del Fuegos. He has kept parents throughout America sane by bringing a fresh take to children's music. You won't think this music is for the under-ten set when you hear it. The sound is bluesy honky tonk, music that is great to play on a Sunday afternoon. It's impossible to not tap your foot along with the beat. His albums are studded with cameos from big names like Lou Reed and Debbie Harry.

Dan Zanes' latest album, The Welcome Table!, is a collection of tunes drawn primarily from North American gospel traditions put together to help create awareness for The New Sanctuary Movement - a coalition of interfaith religious leaders working to respond actively to combat immigrant discrimination, on the album. His earlier album, Catch That Train!, was the 2007 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Album for Children.

I have five bundles of Dan Zanes albums to giveaway to some lucky Savvy Source winners. This should give everyone a chance to get to know Dan Zanes or to broaden their library. Each winner will receive two Dan Zanes albums: Catch That Train! and Nueva York! To enter to win, just send me an email to beingsavvynewark@savvysource.com by Friday, March 6 with your favorite children's singer. I'll select the winners at random that night.

Other Upcoming Events in the area include:
  • ROCK OUT! The children's band, Milkshake, will be performing at the Wyckoff Y this Saturday 2/28 at 1PM.
  • THE CIRCUS IS COMING TO TOWN! The new Ringling Brothers show, Zing Zang Zoom, is coming to NJ. The show will be at the Prudential Arena in Newark from March 5 - March 9 and then in E. Rutherford at the Meadowlands from March 11 - March 15. A four-pack of tickets is just $44 if you enter code MOM at Ticketmaster. And I'm giving away four tickets over at Chefdruck Reviews

Rock Out with Milkshake in February

January 30, 2009

I'm not sure if it's official or not yet, but as far as I'm concerned, this has been the most brutal winter on record. The snow has lost its novelty and my kids can no longer be bribed into helping me shovel. They are overflowing with nervous energy and I'm constantly struggling to find fun activities to channel it away from destructive tendencies. My favorite way to occupy them is by having jam  Read more...
